Lakelanders take second at the Kansas City Midwest Classic

Following up last year's tournament win always seemed like a daunting task as the Lakelanders headed down to Kansas City for the annual tournament that has become a highlight of the summer.  With the tournament split into two halves, the first a round robin between the four teams present (Kansas City A, Kansas City B, Denver and TCGFC) and the second being a seeded knock out tournament, fatigue was going to play its part.  With surface temperatures well over 100 degrees fahrenheit on the Swope park turf it seemed like every team had their difficulties dealing with it.

For the round robin portion the Lakelanders finished 1-1-1 first beating Kansas City B and then losing at the final kick of the ball to Kansas City A in back to back games.  After a break the team tied Denver who they would then face first in the semifinals.  That semifinal would prove a tricky fixture as the game went into overtime and the Lakelanders faced injuries to a number of players but still went on to win the game.

After a short break the Lakelanders limped into the final but were no match for the well rested and well organized KCA offense.  They were worthy winners on the day and lifted the trophy once again.

Until 2014.
